White Water Main Page - Rafting in Arenal Costa Rica
Since 1992 Desafio Adventure Company has run the swift white water rapids of Costa Rica. Some of the rivers we have operated are the Rio Peñas Blancas (unfortunately not available due to a dam project), Rio Sarapiqui, Rio Balsa, Rio Arenal and Rio Toro.

We currently operate tours on the Rio Balsa and Rio Toro, both in the Volcano Arenal vicinity of Costa Rica.
White Water Rafting

Desafio Adventure Company also offers Floating Nature Safaris. Great for all ages. Explore the river on a serene excursion looking for the Flora and Fauna of Arenal Costa Rica.
International River Rafting System:
Grade I - Small regular rapids and clear passages. Easy float.
Grade II - Clear passages punctuated by regular, medium-sized waves. Requires
competent maneuvering.
Grade III - Numerous rapids with fairly powerful, irregular waves. Waters can become fast and turbulent. Narrow passages often require complex maneuvering.
Grade IV - Long stretches of difficult rapids. High powerful waves in turbulent waters.
Grade V - Extremely difficult, violent rapids that require scouting from shore.
Grade VI - Nearly impossible. For teams of experts only.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: All rafting excursions are recommended for persons in good physical shape. Rafters should be competent swimmers. Recommended ages 14 -55 (the Class I Wildlife tour is good for all ages) For the safety of the rafters, river guides reserve the right to deny participation of any rafter. Furthermore, given that rafting is influenced from the forces of nature, Desafio Expeditions can not guarantee that a rafter's first choice in rivers will be run and, for safety reasons, the river guides further reserve the right to change rivers at any time due to water levels.
